Desert Christ Park : The first time I heard of this attraction in CA was in a book "Weird California". It zoomed to the top of my "must shoot" list. My wife told me ..."I can't believe we never went there when my Father was alive!"...Soooo, when we went to Joshua Tree to catch the wildflowers this spring, we made a side trip to Desert Christ park in Yucca Valley CA. I was fully prepared to find some truly tacky display. Instead, after learning about the artist, Antoine Martin, I walked away with a serious appreciation for this man's vision and faith...It took years to create and this guy (who had some serious health issues) managed to lug hundreds of tousands of pound of concrete up some ugly hills (in incredible desert heat) to create this homage to the lige of Jesus. I walked away with a profound sense of dedication and committment for this artist. It's more compelling when you see the degradition of this work (desert heat, vandalism, neglect). For the 1st time I had a sense of the devotion that artists from the Middle Ages might have had.

Old Bethpage Restoration, New York : Feeling a bit nostalgic about where I grew up. Over the years, we've made many a trip to the Old Bethpage Village Restoration...a recreation of a Long Island town in the early 1800's. It's jarring to run across this piece of history in the middle of a (Very) developed area of LI, but its easy to get lost in the magic of this village. Many of the pictures were shot with very low light on a cloudy day...so there'e amore noise that I would like...but the effect does begin to grow on you. I expect this gallery may have limited appeal, but I hope you like the pictures.

Cemeteries : There's something oddly comforting about being in an old graveyard. Maybe its the history, the knowledge that all of these people came before you, or even as a reminder of your own mortality. These "hamlets of your forefathers" (as my Dad is so fond of calling them) are simply fascinating to me, and the older, the better.

Long Island and NYC : I grew up on LI and worked in NYC for 4 years before moving to CA. Still love going back east for Xmas to see family and be there the only week New Yorkers are civil to each other...an odd sense of peace is always evident in the city at that time.
